I hate to put spoilers in a review but this movie is so bad in so many ways I feel compelled to.
I have to admit that I went into this just to see Megan Fox play an FBI agent, because that reeks of "so bad it will be funny". Throw in has-been actor Bruce Willis and I was sure I would get a few chuckles. Instead I was bored, confused and insulted. The movie is so poorly put together, the script so lackluster, it's just tedious. Nothing about it is believable. Fox and Willis are FBI agents and they are all you see of the FBI. Emile Hirsch looks adorable and not for one second appears to be a real cop. There is a serial killer on the loose in Florida but the cops have decided to ignore the obvious connections ? Worst of all Lukas Haas plays the serial killer who seems to have no set MO, because this movie is so poorly written. He kills prostitutes, but also captures some to keep , but is also meeting some online ? While he is one of the better actors in this, he is given so little to work with, he can not save his character from being the most boring serial killer ever.
Megan Fox's FBI agent is written as a moron who gets herself drugged and captured by the serial killer even though she set up the meeting knowing he might be the killer. And this to me is what Hollywood has become. The writer needs to put a character in a movie into a certain situation and although it makes no sense, that character all of a sudden becomes an idiot. Willis, BTW, has only a small role as someone for Fox to explain herself to, and all in the most boring ways possible. In a car, in a diner, always sitting. This is a movie with very little action.
Fox , Willis and Hirsch are listed as the 3 stars and they all stink in their roles. Haas does a little better. There are only 2 people who seem to shine in their brief time onscreen. Sistine Stallone has a cameo and she actually stands out as believable. Machine Gun Kelly actually steals the 2 scenes he shares with Fox and is completely realistic as a pimp. Someone needs to make him the star of a movie.
One of the most revolting aspects of this film is that it deals with the exploitation of young women while actually exploiting women. Not that this is new to Hollywood but it seems especially offensive here. The killer makes no sense, he just seems to be doing things at random so the audience gets to see a woman tied up or abused. Even the captured victim is a moron, needing fellow captured victim Fox, to urge her to try to escape. It's not a movie that makes sense. In fact I've seen cheap horror films with more believable villains and victims.
This is the longest review I've ever written because somehow this movie is all that is wrong with Hollywood in 2021, bad casting, poor acting, horrible script, awful direction, scenes that mean nothing, add nothing, flashbacks to earlier scenes in the film , no character development, and completely forgettable. I remember nothing of a soundtrack. If you are a fan of Fox, you're going to watch this. Poor Machine Gun Kelly's part is so small it's not worth it to suffer through the rest. Willis needs to retire already. Haas has so much screen time I feel sorry for him that he was given nothing to work with. Hirsch should never play a cop again, unless it's a comedy. If you have a brain in your head, avoid this stinker.
